Ottawa — April 13, 2005 —
Carrier Logistics of Tarrytown, N.Y., has announced an alliance
with Ottawa-based e-global logistics firm ViaSafe Inc. to enable
truckers to speed freight across the border with fewer problems
and less paperwork.
ViaSafe technology combined with CLI's FACTS computerized transportation
accommodates new Customs advanced notification rules, speeding up
border processes, reduces shipment costs, improves service, and
increases job satisfaction for border-crossing drivers, CLI vice-president
Ken Weinberg says.
The partnership provides a transparent back-end solution to link
the FACTS freight management system with U.S. and Canadian governments,
customers and customs brokers to exchange customs and trade documents.
“Until now, the flow of customs documentation has been paper-based,
very slow and very costly, which slows down the entire business
cycle,” says Weinberg. “Now, by working with ASP ViaSafe,
we have a new, secure electronic connection to the agencies that
need to receive the documentation."
Not only does the system speed things up, but also cuts customs
brokers’ costs by 30 percent for communication with the Customs,
Weinberg adds.
